Central College

Area students earn presidential scholarships from Central College for their commitment to high academic achievement.

Five men and five women were recently nominated for the Central College homecoming court. These Central seniors will participate in a coronation on Oct. 3, where the homecoming king and queen will be announced.

Kate Huisman '16, an elementary education and Spanish major from Sioux Center, Iowa, worked for nonprofit Hope Haven in Rock Valley this summer.

Elizabeth Carman '15 and Raegan Zetterlund '16, communication studies majors at Central College, presented original research on smartphones and families at the Iowa Communication Association conference on Sept. 19. Their paper was recognized as one of the top undergraduate submissions.

Brett Rozeboom '16 was as well prepared as he could be for his six-week medical internship in Cameroon. A biology major from Sioux Center, Iowa, Rozeboom spent nine months planning the trip with the Luke Society of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This organization provides support to indigenous Christian medical directors in more than 30 countries around the world.

For excellence in mathematics, 12 students were inducted into Central College's new Kappa Mu Epsilon chapter.

Sydney Gray, a senior elementary education major at Central College, has been awarded the ETS Recognition of Excellence Award for achieving an exceptional score on the Praxis Elementary Education Content Knowledge test.

Central College senior Schyler Bardole, of Rippey, Iowa, received the Recognition of Achievement in Speech Communication from the Iowa Communication Association.

Central College senior Emily Friedricks, of West Des Moines, received the Recognition of Achievement in Speech Communication from the Iowa Communication Association.

Central College junior Elizabeth Carman, of Jefferson, Iowa, received the Recognition of Achievement in Speech Communication from the Iowa Communication Association.

The Central College education department has named Kaitlyn Huisman, Jacob Wassenaar, Lauren Meyer and Anna Pierce as the 2014-15 Geisler Penquite scholars.

The following local students graduated from Central College Saturday, May 11. The ceremony was held at H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse in Pella, Iowa. There were 348 graduates from 15 states and one foreign country.
