Cameron Coles, a member of the Class of 2022 at Central College, has been named a 2021 Goldwater Scholar in a prestigious national competition that recognizes undergraduates for outstanding achievements in the fields of mathematics, science and engineering.

Emma Lowden will participate in the competitive Surgery Undergraduate Research Experience in the Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Summer 2021.

12 Central College students will perform in the Flying Pans Steel Band concert March 27 in Douwstra Auditorium.

12 Central College students will perform in the ALMA concert March 26 in Cox-Snow Music Center.

18 Central College students will perform with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble concert March 11 on the Hoekstra Family Stage in Douwstra Auditorium.

19 Central College students in Introduction to Angling, an exercise science course, helped place 300 trees attached to cinder blocks on the ice at Roberts Creek. When the ice melts, the structure will provide sustainable habitat for fish in Lake Red Rock. The project was done in cooperation with the Marion County Conservation. It was part of the global sustainability portion of the course, which introduces the basic skills, theory and equipment necessary to begin the development of lifelong angling skills.

32 Central College students will participate in internships for the Spring 2021 semester.

More than 380 students were named to the Central College dean's list for Fall 2020. The honor is awarded to full-time students who achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale while taking 12 or more graded credit hours for the semester.

42 Central College students are participating Jan. 11-15 in the college's Career Kickstarter program, a free, one-week program offered during winter break that offers micro-internship opportunities and the opportunity to explore potential career paths.

63 Central College students are performing in the 46th annual Christmas Candlelight Concert, which will premire at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11. The event is pre-recorded and available for free at central.edu/candlelight. The A Cappella Choir, Chambers Singers and Handbell Choir will come together for one of the college's most cherished traditions. This year's theme is "Peace on Earth."

Kyle Berst, a biology major at Central College, presented his senior honors thesis titled "Reductive Sialylation of Cambiarenes" on Dec. 3.

Cheyanne Scholl, a biology and Spanish major at Central College, presented her senior honors thesis titled "Native Bee Diversity in Tall Grass Remnant Prairie in Iowa and Identification via DNA Barcoding" on Dec. 3.

23 Central College students will perform at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, as part of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble's "Winter Spectacular." The event will be livestreamed and recorded and can be viewed at central.edu/fine-arts. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson, "English Folk Song Suite" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, "A Movement for Rosa" and "Christmas at the Movies" with selections of popular Christmas music by John Williams.

15 Central College students will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in "Caribbean Christmas" as part of the Flying Pans Steel Band. The event will be livestreamed and recorded and can be viewed at central.edu/fine-arts. The Flying Pans Steel Band Savor will perform Christmas classics with a tropical twist, including "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree," "Jingle Bells," "Silent Night" and Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Wizards in Winter." Proceeds will benefit the Central Cares Fund.

21 Central College students will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in "An Evening of Percussion Music" via livestream. The event also will be recorded and can be viewed at central.edu/fine-arts. The Percussion Ensemble and Dutch Boom Drumline join to perform drum cadences, marimba quartets, solo marimba music and an original composition featuring cymbals, gongs and tam-tams.

15 Central College students performed Saturday, Oct. 31, in "AMERIPAN" as members of the The Flying Pans Steel Band. The patriotic performance was held on Hoekstra Family Stage in Douwstra Auditorium and was part of a series of upcoming virtual performances.

11 Central College students will participate in the production of John John Patrick Shanley's "Doubt, A Parable," which won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for drama and the 2005 Tony Award for best play. It runs Oct. 7-11 in Kruidenier Theatre on Central's campus.

12 students are members of the Vocal/Instrumental Jazz and Pop Combo at Central College for the 2020-21 academic year.

Central College announced its Homecoming court and royalty winners during a ceremony Friday, Sept. 25. Blaine Hawkins, Daria Parchert, Paige Roehlk and Katie Banowetz were selected to the Homecoming court. Joseph Pepe and Kennedy Morris were crowned Homecoming royalty.

15 students are members of the Flying Pans Steel Band at Central College for the 2020-21 academic year. The group plays on steel pan drums, which originated in Trinidad and Tobago. The Flying Pans are known for their theatrical performances, complete with costumes, lights and visual aids.

Two students are members of the Flute Ensemble at Central College for the 2020-21 academic year.

3 students are members of the Percussion Ensemble at Central College for the 2020-21 academic year. The ensemble is a mish-mash of majors from all across campus, brought together by a simple love of percussion. It is known for trying different kinds of music.

7 Central College students are members of the Jazz Band for the 2020-21 academic year. An auditioned ensemble, Central's Jazz Band challenges its members musically, pushing them to experiment and stretch their abilities.

25 students make up the Chamber Singers at Central College for the 2020-21 academic year. The Chamber Singers are a subset of the A Cappella Choir, with members chosen by Mark Babcock, M. Joan Kuyper Farver Endowed Chair in Music and Professor of Music. The Chamber Singers often lend their voices to official events around campus.

22 students are members of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble at Central College for the 2020-21 academic year. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble is an auditioned instrumental group and one of the premier ensembles on campus.

10 Central College students are completing internships this fall for academic credit.
