Central RED Presents Women of Yucatan Presentation by Jann Freed

by Central College

Pella, IA (09/25/2019) — Central College's Central RED Society presents "Women of Yucatán: Thirty Who Dared to Change Their World," a presentation by Jann Freed. The event is set for Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Dave and Ardie Sutphen Common Room in Graham Annex. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. with the program to follow at noon. Cost of lunch is $10.

Freed and George Ann Huck in 1998 set out to interview women in Yucatán. Some were recognized as leaders and others were ordinary women doing extraordinary things. After more than a decade of interviewing and photographing the women, translating and analyzing the data, a book was published in 2010.

A bilingual photography exhibit has been displayed at more than 20 locations over the years, including a women's festival in Mérida, Mexico. Freed will share stories about their adventures during this long and memorable process.

Freed, a 1977 graduate of Central, is leadership development and change management consultant with The Genysys Group. She is professor emerita of business management and the former Mark and Kay De Cook Endowed Chair in Leadership and Character Development at Central College, where she had 30-year career.
