Central RED Presents Women of Yucatan Presentation by Jann Freed
Pella, IA (09/25/2019) — Central College's Central RED Society presents "Women of Yucatán: Thirty Who Dared to Change Their World," a presentation by Jann Freed. The event is set for Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Dave and Ardie Sutphen Common Room in Graham Annex. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. with the program to follow at noon. Cost of lunch is $10.
Freed and George Ann Huck in 1998 set out to interview women in Yucatán. Some were recognized as leaders and others were ordinary women doing extraordinary things. After more than a decade of interviewing and photographing the women, translating and analyzing the data, a book was published in 2010.
A bilingual photography exhibit has been displayed at more than 20 locations over the years, including a women's festival in Mérida, Mexico. Freed will share stories about their adventures during this long and memorable process.
