Metalsmith Artist Featured at Central College Exhibit

by Central College

Pella, IA (10/04/2018) — Central College presents Displaced, an exhibit of metalwork by Teresa Faris, in the Mills Gallery, located in the Lubbers Center for the Visual Arts on Central's campus.

The event will open October 17 and will run until November 9. An opening reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in the gallery. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Faris is drawn to "the simplest techniques of sawing/piercing and fabrication as I find that I am able to forget about the process." Her work, she says, "explores the notion of advantage and disadvantage that, adjacently, resides within all beings."

"Teresa's work shows a nice range of artistic skills," says Treva Reimer, professor of art.

Faris is associate professor and area head of the metals program at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where she received the Women in Leadership Award. She co-authored the Women of Metal Exhibition and Oral History Project, has received many grants and awards and exhibits extensively in Europe and the United States.
