Jazzmania Highlights Upcoming Concerts at Central College

Pella, IA (01/29/2020) — Central College's music department will present its 41st annual Jazzmania concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, in the Recital Hall of Cox-Snow Music Center. It is free and open to the public.

Jazzmania will feature the Central College Jazz Band, as well as vocalists Molly Lehr, a 2008 Central graduate, and Jake Schulte, a senior at Pella High School. Also performing is special guest Ashanti, the Latin jazz musical group led by Gabriel Espinosa, associate professor of music at Central. Ashanti includes Dave Kobberdahl, trumpet; Bryan Schumaker, saxophone; Eric Sickler, piano; and Tim Crumley, drums.

The 9th-12th Grade Bandfest, an all-day event Thursday, Jan. 30, will wrap up with a 7 p.m. concert on Hoekstra Stage in Douwstra Auditorium. It will feature the Festival Honor Band and Central's Symphonic Wind Ensemble and is free and open to the public.

The 10th-12th Grade Singfest is set for Thursday, Feb. 13, at Central, another all-day event. It also will wrap up with a 7 p.m. concert in Douwstra featuring the Festival Choir and Central's A Cappella Choir. It is free and open to the public.

An ALMA Concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in the Recital Hall of Cox-Snow. Cost is $5 or free with a Central ID.

The final concert of February is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, when the Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs in Douwstra.
