Homecoming 2019 Set for Sept. 27-29 at Central College

Pella, IA (09/11/2019) — Central College will host alumni, family and friends for Homecoming from Sept. 27-29, welcoming everyone to participate in a fun-filled and family-friendly three days of activities on campus.

The Dutch football team will face Loras at 1 p.m. Sept. 28 in its Homecoming matchup. Fans also are invited to a pregame tailgate party set for 11 a.m. and postgame party to begin shortly after the game. Admission to the game is $6.

The Lemming Race, a Central tradition since 1977, features students dressed in costumes racing to the campus pond and jumping in. It begins at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27.

There are plenty of other events, including the invitation-only Heritage Day Luncheon and a celebration to honor Wallace "Spencer" Stepenske and his gift that made possible renovations to the Peace Mall. Also planned are a family movie night and many music performances in historic and recently renovated Douwstra Auditorium.

A happy hour on the patio is set for 4:30 p.m. Friday, with dinner around the pond scheduled at 6 p.m. The Athletics Hall of Honor Banquet begins ta 6:30 p.m. Friday, while a family movie night is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. The first night ends with an ALMA Concert at 8 p.m. in Douwstra.

Saturday begins with Pancakes with the President at 8 a.m., leading to the 1 p.m. football game. A kids zone and family activities are planned at 10 a.m., with the pregame tailgate party at 11 a.m. under the big tent near Schipper Stadium.

Central is offering discounted tickets at Pella Cinema all day Saturday. The A Cappella Choir also will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Douwstra.

Homecoming weekend wraps up Sunday, starting with brunch at 11 a.m. in Central Market. The Flying Pans Steel Band will hold its alumni concert at 1 p.m. with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble's concert to follow at 2:15 p.m.
