Dutch dance team wins third straight league titl
Central adds two to the all-conference team
Storm Lake, IA (02/17/2025) — It was another dominant day for the Central College dance team at the American Rivers Conference Cheer and Dance Championships Sunday, winning all three categories and taking the overall trophy
Central swept the pom, jazz and hip-hop divisions for the second straight season. Jessie Pospisil (senior, Cedar Rapids, Cedar Valley Christian HS) and Chayse Gilchrist (sophomore, Fairfield) both earned all-conference accolades.
Central scored 86.13 in pom outpacing second place Buena Vista University's total of 71.03. The Dutch edged Wartburg College in hip hop 81.47 to 80.93. Central finished in front of Nebraska Wesleyan University 86.23 to 80.23
"We have been tweaking and changing our choreography after receiving our critiques at state competition back in December," coach Lexi Gbogbo said. "We don't want our competitors seeing the same things they saw at State. We brought all the new surprises here today. Our energy and passion projected out on the floor, along with our technical skills. We came to bring the heat today, and we did just that."
In the cheer competition, Central won the title for game day routine with a total of 63.7, ahead of second-place Nebraska Wesleyan 62.23. There was no official conference title awarded because the minimum number of teams required was not met.
"This team is a force to be reckoned with," coach Megan Bouska said. "We came in strong, and even with a bobble, we still came out on top. Let's enjoy this moment but keep striving for more."
Central will compete in the NDA/NCA (National Dance Alliance/National Cheerleaders Association) College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida April 8-13.
