Dance 'n' Rhythm Highlights October Music Performances at Central College

Pella, IA (09/30/2019) — Central College's music department will have four performances in October, including two shows that bring middle school and high school kids to campus.

Highlighting the month is Dance 'n' Rhythm, a project formed by New York tap dancer Max Pollak and clarinetist Matthias Mueller from Switzerland. The concert is set for 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, on the Hoekstra Family Stage in Douwstra Auditorium.

Pollack and Mueller will perform a mixture of improvised and composed music that is unlike anything you've heard before. Mueller will perform using his innovative SABRE technology, which allows musicians to manipulate their sound using electronics during live performance. Pollak travels the world performing Latin-influenced dance and body percussion in a style he has created called RumbaTap.

Dance 'n' Rhythm is sure to be an evening of music and dance that is truly unique and entertaining. The event is free and open to the public.

The 8th and 9th Grade Singfest is an all-day event Tuesday, Oct. 8, when middle and high school students from Iowa spend the day in a workshop setting. The day ends with a performance of the Festival Honor Choir, Treble Clef Choir, Bass Clef Choir and Central's A Cappella Choir and Chamber Singers. The concert is set for 7 p.m. in Douwstra and is free and open to the public.

The 7th and 8th Grade Bandfest, set for Thursday, Oct. 10, brings middle school students from central and southern Iowa together for an all-day workshop. It ends with a performance by the Festival Honor Band, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble. The concert is set for 7 p.m. in Douwstra and is free and open to the public.
