Central women's basketball team takes down Loras on the road
The Dutch surpass last season's win total
Dubuque, IA (02/10/2025) — The Central College women's basketball team snapped its 4-game losing streak Saturday with a 68-59 win against Loras College.
"Today was a fight and I am proud of our team to continues to fight despite the past few tough losses," coach Justin Weiland said. "With limited guaranteed games remaining we want to go 1-0 each game and play with high energy which we did today."
The starters carried the load offensively scoring 56 of the teams points with Gabby Moore (senior, Waterloo, West HS) leading the way with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
"It was great to see her play like she did today," Weiland said. "She had an aggressive mentality and was looking for her shot. She did a little bit of everything today and finished well around the rim."
Emily Naughton (sophomore, Indianola) scored 14 points and added four rebounds, five assists and three steals. Abby Johnson (senior Ankeny) added nine points, CeCe Moore (sophomore, Waterloo, West HS) scored eight points and Hannah Dau (senior, Paullina, South O'Brien HS) cashed in two fourth quarter three-point shots.
As a team Central (12-10, 5-8 American Rivers) shot 47.2% from the field and 43.5% from three-point range. It also collected 15 assists. Loras was held to 40% from the field and 32% from three. The Dutch also forced Loras into 17 turnovers.
Off the bench Samantha Scott (senior, Davenport, North Scott HS) and Bailey Reding (junior, Grundy Center) both scored six points. Jasmyn Williams (junior, Denver, Colo., Arvada West HS) dished out four assists despite not scoring.
With the win the Dutch surpass last seasons win total and reach the most wins in a season since 2019-2020.
"We are going towards our team goals and surpassing last seasons win total with three games remaining is a great step for the program," Weiland said. "If we continue to play like this on both ends of the floor we can reach our goals."
The Dutch have a bye on Wednesday before returning home to face the University of Dubuque Saturday at 2 p.m.
