Central to Host Women's Leadership Conference for Students

Pella, IA (08/08/2019) — Central College will introduce "Leadership for the Common Good: Women's Leadership Conference" later this month.

The new three-day conference will provide opportunities for juniors at Central who have been nominated by faculty and staff members. The event will allow them to meet with regional women leaders who are experts in their fields and embody character traits that set an example for women scholars and future leaders.

Central's mission is dedicated to providing opportunities for students to develop values essential to responsible citizenship and empower graduates for effective service locally, in the state and nationally.

"Participants will learn about teamwork, civic leadership, curiosity and entrepreneurship, and hone negotiation skills," says Jess Klyn de Novelo, director of career and professional development and the event's coordinator. She is a 2005 Central graduate.

The conference will be held on campus Aug. 21-23, with visits to businesses and non-profits in the Des Moines region and Pella. The conference is made possible through funding by the Monticello College Foundation, the Vermeer Charitable Foundation and private donations.
