Central Students Earn Gilman Scholarships
Pella, IA (08/10/2020) — Four Central College students received Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships, which enable students to study or intern abroad:
- Alora Nowlin, Class of 2023, a political science, Spanish and French major from Council Bluffs, Iowa, plans to intern in Spain in Spring 2021.
- Madolyn Clark, Class of 2022, a biochemistry major from Clarinda, Iowa, plans to intern in Mexico in Summer 2021.
- Samantha DePauw, Class of 2022, a business management major from Mineral, Illinois, plans to intern in Mexico in Summer 2021.
- Jenna Clark, Class of 2022, an elementary education major from Story City, Iowa, is undecided.
Study Abroad at Central was canceled for Summer 2020 and Fall 2020. Plans for Spring 2021 and beyond will be announced later.
The Gilman Program also announced changes, requiring all students who have received, or are selected to receive, Gilman scholarships to defer awards to programs starting between Jan. 1, 2021, and Dec. 31, 2021. Alternatively, Gilman Scholars can use their awards to support credit-bearing virtual international opportunities now through Dec. 31, 2021.
