Central RED to Spend a Day in Newton
Pella, IA (08/20/2019) — Central College's Central RED Society will spend a day in Newton, leaving Pella at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
Cost is $15 and includes a box lunch. The class is limited to 40 people and membership in Central RED is required.
The day in Newton will begin at the Centre for the Arts and Artists. The group will meet with Nick Klepinger, a local artist and sculptor, who will discuss his inspirations and techniques to creating his works. The group also will meet with Herman Deaton, a 91-year-old sculptor, who along with the help of Rick Stewart, completed a life-size sculpture of a horse displayed at the Newton Historical Museum.
Lunch will follow before visiting the Newton Historical Museum, one of the best small-town museums in Iowa. There the group will view Deaton's work and tour the museum before returning to Pella.
Central RED (Ready to Engage and Discover) is a volunteer-driven, lifelong learning and social organization with an abiding partnership with Central College alumni and friends who wish to share knowledge, talents and experiences. Members pay $20 annually to join Central RED.
