Central RED Society Presents Culture Night on Pakistan with Professor Anya Butt

Pella, IA (10/29/2018) — Central College's Central RED Society will present "Culture Night - Pakistan" with Professor of Biology Anya Butt.

"Pakistan is a beautiful country with some very wonderful people that has, as many other countries do, really complicated politics," says Butt, who spent her high school years in that country. She'll share information about Pakistan's history, misconceptions, politics and more in her presentation.

The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in the Dave and Ardie Sutphen Common Room in Graham Annex on Central's campus. Admission is $15, which includes an authentic Pakistani dinner; a cash bar will be available.

Participants must be a member of the Central RED ("Ready to Engage and Discover") Society to attend. A Central RED membership costs $25 per year. The society is open to all.

Butt has a bachelor's degree in geology from Mount Holyoke College. She also holds a master's degree in physical geography from the University of Toronto and a doctorate in hydrology/hydrogeology from the University of Nevada. She has lived on four of the worlds' five continents and teaches primarily in Central's environmental studies program.
