Central RED Society Presents Armistice Day Talk by Mark Barloon

Pella, IA (10/21/2019) — Central College's Central RED Society presents "Armistice Day: Remembering World War I" by Mark Barloon, senior lecturer of history. The event is set for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in the Dave and Ardie Sutphen Common Room in Graham Annex. Dinner is $15 and a cash bar will be available.

The presentation will offer a brief examination of World War I, with emphasis on the new and modern aspects of the fighting. It will conclude with a look at ways in which participants commemorated their sacrifices in the war, including poems, poppies, monuments and music.

Barloon has been teaching at Central for 17 years. His area of expertise is American military history, with an emphasis on the Civil War.

Central RED (Ready to Engage and Discover) is a volunteer-driven, lifelong learning and social organization with an abiding partnership with Central College alumni and friends who wish to share knowledge, talents and experiences. Members pay $20 annually to join Central RED.
