Central College to Host Free STEM Exploration Event

Pella, IA (05/13/2019) — Central College is offering a unique opportunity for prospective high school students with its STEM Exploration event. Sponsored by Alliant Energy, the free event is set for June 27-28 and will allow prospective students to explore the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Students attending STEM Exploration will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with Central professors, spending time in both their indoor and outdoor labs and working in Vermeer Science Center. With six different hands-on workshops focused on topics such as bat netting, chemical reactions using slime, DNA sequencing, heat transfer and thermal imaging, statistics with dolphins and robotics programming, students can explore various STEM areas that meet their specific interests.

In addition to workshops, students will interact with STEM alumni and current Central students, take place in team-building activities and attend a session presented by Pella Corporation. This event will provide students with experience in research and STEM opportunities at the college level.

At no cost to those attending, students have the option to spend the night on campus in one of Central's residence halls. While the event lasts two days, students may choose to attend one or both days of STEM Exploration.
