Central College's Mills Gallery Presents Porcelain Artist Amy Uthus

Pella, IA (01/08/2019) — Central College presents "Veritas," an exhibition of the work of ceramicist Amy Uthus, at the Mills Gallery in the Lubbers Center for the Visual Arts on Central's campus.

"I draw on my love for the beauty of light interacting with porcelain and my veneration of vast landscapes to create luminous works of art," Uthus says. She has developed new methods to slip cast ultrathin panels and vessel walls that are so translucent that color can easily be seen through them.

"Amy's work invites the viewer to think about the transformative processes that happen in art-how a medium like clay, which is essentially mud, can be transformed into something beautiful," says Treva Reimer, Central professor of art and the gallery's exhibit curator.

The exhibit opens Monday, Jan. 14, and runs until Friday, Feb. 8. The public is invited to an opening reception at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, in the gallery. The Mills Gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
