Central College's Hakeman Named Admission Professional of the Year

by Central College

Pella, IA (06/18/2019) — Susie Hakeman, assistant director of admission at Central College, was named 2019 Admission Professional of the Year by the Iowa Association for College Admission Counseling.

The award is presented to a postsecondary admission professional who provides exemplary services to students in their college admission process. Hakeman, one of three nominees, was recognized for her role as coordinator of Scholar Days, other admission events for prospective students and her leadership on the Central admission team.

One nominator said of Hakeman: "Susie always works hard to build strong relationships with the students that she recruits. She responds to them in a timely manner and guides them as they are working to make their college decision. She truly goes out of her way to make students feel welcome at Central College. In addition to her great work with students, Susie is a huge support to the other counselors. She is always willing to offer advice and share things she has found to be effective when recruiting students. Susie recognizes that we are all working toward the same goal, and she encourages us to do our best in moving toward that."

Hakeman joined Central's admission staff in February 2014 and was promoted to assistant director in January 2018. She graduated from Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids and attended Calamus-Wheatland High School.

Central College of Pella, Iowa, is a private, four-year liberal arts college. Central is known for its academic rigor, leadership and character development, global experiential learning, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and sustainability education, athletics and service.
