Pella, IA (02/25/2019) — The Noel Cover Foundation of Cozad, Nebraska, recently presented Central College with a $50,000 gift.

The foundation provides scholarships and loan funds to needy, deserving and promising young men who are residents of Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota or Nebraska and who attend private, Protestant-related colleges. Recipients must be studying in fields related to science, scientific research, mechanical engineering and craftsmanship, medicine, medical research or social science.

Central is one of four colleges that receive regular gifts from the foundation and is the only Iowa institution represented. Since 1972, when the foundation was established, Central has received gifts for 261 scholarships for 114 students from the foundation totaling $1.19 million.

"We are extremely grateful to the Noel Cover Foundation for its significant, long-term support of Central College and its students," says Sunny Gonzales Eighmy, Central's vice president for advancement and a 1999 Central alumna. "A significant number of Central students have benefited from the foundation's gifts during the past four decades. The college's recent addition of an engineering degree strengthens Central's position and alignment with the foundation's objectives."

Noel Cover was a farmer and rancher in the Cozad, Nebraska, area. He and his wife, Nellie Cover, believed in education even though they had no children. The Noel Cover Foundation was established after Noel's death to benefit students in the four states in which Cover did business. Earnings from the foundation are derived from the annual revenue generated by approximately 1,000 acres of irrigated farmland near Cozad.

Central College of Pella, Iowa, is a private, four-year liberal arts college.
