Central College Presents Eine Schubertiade
Pella, IA (03/11/2019) — Central College presents Eine Schubertiade, a recital of vocal and instrumental works by Franz Schubert. This first-time event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in Douwstra Auditorium on Central's campus. The event is free and open to the public.
In 19th-century Vienna, Schubert's friends and patrons held informal parlor gatherings in their private homes to feature performances of Schubert's music alongside dancing, poetry readings and other activities in the literary salon tradition. In the early years, Schubert himself often accompanied his works at the piano. On April 2, Central is extending the walls of those early parlors to include Douwstra Auditorium.
Central's Schubertiade will include performances of Shubert's An die Musik, D. 547; Variationen über Trockne Blumen, D. 802; Ständchen, D. 920; Fantasie in f, D. 940; and Dir Hirt auf dem Felsen, D. 965.
Performers will include Instructor of Flute Megan Hofeldt, flute; Associate Professor of Music Cynthia Krenzel, clarinet; Lecturer of Music Erin Bryan, soprano; Beth De Vries, Central Class of 2018, mezzo-soprano; Samantha Moss, Central Class of 2018, soprano; Professor Emeritus of Music Anne Petrie, soprano; Assistant Professor of Music Sarah Van Waardhuizen, soprano; Lecturer of Music and Central Class of 1990 Kris DeWild, piano; and Professor of Music Ian Moschenross, piano.
