Central College Music Performances Begin This Month
Pella, IA (09/04/2019) — Central College's music department will kick off its performances for the academic year with five shows before the end of this month. The first four are part of Central's Homecoming festivities.
It starts with the ALMA Concert set for 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, in Douwstra Auditorium. Its first performance of the season will feature guest artist Javier Alcala, a vocalist from Mérida, Mexico.
Central's A Cappella Choir will perform the next night. It starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in Douwstra.
The Flying Pans Steel Band will hold its alumni concert at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in Douwstra. The joint concert will feature Caribbean music for Homecoming festivities.
On the same day, Central's Symphonic Wind Ensemble will host its first concert of the season. It begins at 2:15 p.m. in Douwstra.
Central will host a Guest Artist Recital featuring David Abbott at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, in Douwstra. Abbott is professor of piano at Albion College in Michigan and a graduate of the Eastman and Julliard schools of music. He will perform solo piano works of Brahms and be joined by Central's Ian Moschenross, professor of music, in Brahms' four-hands arrangement of his Op. 18 String Sextet.
All events are free and open to the public.
