Central College Education Department Presents 2019 Geisler Penquite Workshop

by Central College

Pella, IA (03/14/2019) — The Central College education department presents "Motivating and Managing Hard to Reach, Uninterested and Disruptive Students." This workshop will take place 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, in the Graham Conference Center on Central's campus. The event is free and open to the public thanks to a generous donation by the Geisler Penquite Foundation.

Education consultant Brian Mendler, who lectures worldwide, will help participants discover and practice strategies, techniques and ideas designed to increase motivation and prevent discipline problems in classrooms and ignite a passion for success.

The workshop's sessions include education through the eyes of a special education student and defusing power struggles; kids who do nothing; when teaching gets tough; social emotional learning; and the teacher who changed my life.

The Geisler Penquite Program honors and supports exceptional students in the college's teacher education program who exhibit potential for leadership and hold at least a 3.4 cumulative grade-point average, among other qualifications.

"Central College is deeply grateful for our partnership with the Geisler Penquite Foundation," says Sunny Eighmy, vice president for advancement for Central. "Our history together goes back four decades and the generosity of the foundation continues to help students across generations. The impact is truly remarkable."

The Geisler Penquite Foundation was established by Harold and Mavis Geisler and Cecil Geisler Penquite and Loren Penquite in honor of their parents, John Edward Geisler and Gertrude Setzer Geisler. The family also endowed the college's Geisler Library.
