Central College Accepting Student Applications for Future Ready Iowa Program
Pella, IA (05/29/2019) — Central College is accepting applications for its Future Ready Iowa: Summer Youth Internship Program. The six-week program runs July 8 to Aug. 16 and is designed for low-income students at risk of not graduating high school.
Central recently received a $50,530 grant to create a high-demand career internship program in conjunction with Central, Pella Corporation, Precision, Inc. (PPI) and the Vermeer Corporation. The Iowa Association of Business and Industry is collaborating with Central to include one week of Business Horizons participation during the program.
The summer program offers selected students a meaningful and developmental summer work experience while interacting with college and workforce professionals in a mentoring relationship. Students will have a paid internship, the chance to intern and/or job shadow at Central, Pella Corporation, Vermeer or PPI and the ability to participate in Business Horizons; upon successful completion, students will be eligible for a $1,500 scholarship and one college credit should they chose to attend Central. Transportation also will be provided.
Central is looking for 10 students who are residents of Marion County and who may be risk of not graduating, from a low-income household and/or from communities underrepresented in the Iowa workforce and face barriers to work success.
