Chloe Gearhart in Central College play "The Laramie Project"

2011 Nov 4

Chloe Gearhart, a sophomore at Central College in Pella, will perform in the drama "The Laramie Project." She is a native of Newton.

Theatre Central will be presenting the highly anticipated show "The Laramie Project" at Kruidenier Center Nov. 9-11 at 7:30 p.m. Directed by senior student Eric Bridges, the show is based on the events surrounding the horrific murder of Matthew Shepard because he was gay. In October 1998, Shepard was brutally beaten, tied to a fence and left for dead. Only one month later, playwright Moises Kaufman, along with members of Tectonic Theater Project, traveled to Laramie, Wyo., to conduct a series of interviews with the residents of the town. Those interviews, along with the reflections of the company members, have been organized into a documentary, replaying the events following that fateful night. Bridges said he is directing the show in order to show students what can happen when hate takes over a small community.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and free with a Central ID. Advance tickets are available at the information booth in Maytag Student Center or by calling 641-628-9000.
