Central College students to lead conference forum

2015 Apr 10

Karianna Grindberg of Fort Dodge and three Central College classmates will lead discussion of doctor-patient metaphors at the Examined Life conference April 17 in Iowa City. The students make up the only undergraduate panel featured at the three-day conference.

Grindberg, a student in associate professor of English Joshua Dole?al's Illness and Health in Literature course, will present examples from literature and invite guests to discuss metaphors for doctor-patient relationships - friends, partners, allies, family, storytellers, performers and more. The group includes exercise science majors Kora Scotton '17 and Sam Markham '17, English major Hannah Marcum '18 and Karianna Grindberg '18.

Dole?al said the Examined Life conference is a great opportunity for undergraduate research and professional development. This medical humanities event focuses on writing and the art of medicine - and how can they be of use to each other.
