Van Gorp leads men's basketball all-conference selections for Central

Schipper earned second team honors, Wehde and Brand were honorable mention

Pella, IA (03/05/2025) — Joshua Van Gorp (5th-year, Pella, Pella Christian HS) was selected for the American Rivers first team all-conference for the third time in his career.

Forward Owen Schipper (freshman, Waukee) was picked to the second team, and guard Kaleb Brand (5th-year, Mount Vernon) and guard Karson Wehde (sophomore, Ankeny) were both named honorable mentions.

A 6-foot-10 center, Van Gorp led the conference, scoring 20.8 points per game in the 16 conference games while shooting 67.3% from the field. He also averaged a double-double adding 10.3 rebounds per game. He also led the conference in minutes played with 562 total minutes and he averaged 35.1 per game.

Against Coe College on February 2, Van Gorp broke the conference and Central record for points in a game with 55 in a 75-73 win. He also had seven double-doubles in conference games.

Schipper was selected after averaging 11.3 points per game. He also had the fourth highest three-point percentage in the A-R-C shooting at a 38.5% clip. Schipper also added 6.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He also played the second most minutes in conference games with 556 total minutes and he averaged 34.8 per game. Defensively he was 14th in steals with 18 while also blocking six shots.

Brand led the conference averaging 5.6 assists per game while also scoring 12.5 points per game. Wehde was second in the conference in three-point percentage at 41.9%. He added 10.1 points per game, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
