Dubuque pulls away from Central in women's basketball
The Dutch return home Wednesday
Dubuque, IA (01/20/2025) — After six lead changes through the first three quarters, the University of Dubuque pulled away in the fourth quarter and defeated the Central College women's basketball team 76-69.
The Spartans (7-9, 4-3 American Rivers) led 50-49 at the end of the third quarter and expanded the lead to 11 before Central came back and cut the deficit to seven.
"I loved the fight of our team," said coach Justin Weiland. "We knew it was going to be a physical game, and credit to Dubuque they played well."
The Dutch (10-6, 3-4 American Rivers) had three players score in double figures with CeCe Moore (sophomore, Waterloo, West HS) leading the way with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting while also collecting seven rebounds, including three offensive rebounds and one blocked shot. Abby Johnson (senior, Ankeny) scored 14 points. Emily Naughton (sophomore, Indianola) added 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting, three assists, and four steals.
"CeCe had an excellent game," said coach Justin Weiland. "We need to continue getting her the ball down low where she excels."
The bench contributed 18 points with Jasmyn Williams (junior, Denver, Colo., Arvada West HS) leading the way with seven points while also dishing out six assists. Allie Rateike (sophomore, Marshall, Wis.) added five points on 2-of-4 shooting.
"Williams was able to get to the free throw line and played with great pace," Weiland said. "We got great contributions from everyone today."
The team was without forward Kaitlyn Mumm (sophomore, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) who was out with an injury.
Dubuque shot 47.3% from the field and 40% from three compared to Central shooting 35.4% from the field and 21.4% from three.
Central returns home and looks to rebound when it hosts Luther College in P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
