Dau career best leads Central women's basketball team to victory
The Dutch move to 7-2 in P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium
Pella, IA (01/23/2025) — Led by a career high 22 points from Hannah Dau (senior, Paullina, South O'Brien HS), the Central College women's basketball team defeated Luther College 72-63.
Dau shot 8-of-12 from the field and was 3-of-3 from three-point range. She also had five rebounds, one assist and one steal.
"Dau is one of the hardest working players on our team and she needs to stay aggressive," said coach Justin Weiland. "She was able to get downhill and finish at the rim, while also shooting threes when they are open."
The Dutch (11-6, 4-4 American Rivers) held Luther to 35.5% shooting from the field and 24.1% from three. On the defensive end they also forced 19 turnovers including 10 steals and had three blocked shots.
"We did a great job of playing as a unit on the defensive end of the floor and we made it hard for them. Luther had to earn everything," Weiland said. "That is a really good Luther team, and we are now 7-2 in P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium which is great."
Abby Johnson (senior, Ankeny) scored 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting while also having four rebounds, one assist and one block.
"It was nice to see her get some open shots," Weiland said. "The defense played drop coverage, so she was able to pull up over the defenders."
As a team the Dutch shot 44.3% from the field and 50% from three. They also collected 14 assists and scored 23 points off turnovers.
Cece Moore (sophomore, Waterloo, West HS) added eight points, one block and four rebounds. Gabby Moore (senior, Waterloo, West HS) scored four points but also had seven rebounds, five steals, and two assists.
The Dutch got 13 bench points with Samantha Scott (senior, Davenport) scoring six points and Jasmyn Williams (junior, Denver, Colo., Arvada West HS) scoring three points while also leading the team with four assists.
